Short Breaks in Achnasheen
The small village of Achnasheen lies in the Scottish Highlands in Ross-shire County. Its name derives from the Gaelic for the 'field of storms' and the wild and dramatic surrounding landscape supports this name well. Local sights include the mountain of Meall Ghaordaidh, the deer forest of Ledgowan and wild trout fishing on the River Bran.
If you wish to look further afield, the village is a wonderful base from which to discover the central Highlands. A short car journey will take you to the banks of Loch Ness - world famous for its alleged sightings of 'Nessie', a monster that supposedly lives in the loch - and the dramatic ruins of Urquhart Castle. The Highland Folk Museum, Cairngorms National Park, Skibo Castle and the historical site of the Battle of Culloden are other fascinating places of interest in the Highlands area.
