Gwynedd

The county of Gwynedd is found in the north-west of Wales and is named after an old kingdom of the country. Its landscape of mountains, forests, waterfalls and valleys make it popular with walkers and climbers. The county also has a significant length of coastline, this is where the Llŷn Peninsula can be found - along with its many reserves, conservation sites and stunning coastal walks.

The city of Bangor, one of Britain's smallest cities is situated on the county's northern coast. Large towns in the area include Bala - location of Wales's largest lake, the ports of Caernarfon and Porthmadog. There are also many pretty villages such as Tremadog & Morfa Bychan.

Gwynedd has an abundance of attractions - both natural and man-made. Part of the Snowdonia National Park is found within the county borders and places such as Cwm Idwal and the dramatic peak of Mount Snowdon are hugely popular with tourists. Other attractions in the area include the impressive castles at Harlech and Penrhyn, the Llechwedd Slate Caverns near Blaenau Ffestiniog, Bala Lake Railway & Ffestiniog Heritage Railway and Portmerion Village - famous for its pottery and being the prime location of 1960's TV series 'The Prisoner'.
