Short Breaks in Blairgowrie

Locally known as ‘Blair’, Blairgowrie is a town on the banks of the River Ericht in the east of Scotland. It is an ideal base for exploring Perthshire, surrounded by fine views of unspoilt hills and mountains, and lush farmland, characterised by fields of raspberries. At the foot of the Grampian Mountains and bounded to the west by Craighill Gorge, Blairgowrie provides many opportunities for scenic walks, ranging from the gentle to the challenging.  At the centre of the town you will find the Wellmeadow, a central open triangle where markets and outdoor entertainments are frequently held.

The Glenshee Ski Centre is just 18 miles to the north and is a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding, having 21 lifts spread over 4 mountains and 3 valleys. Golf is also available at the Blairgowrie Golf Club, known for its outstanding championship golf courses.  In September each year, the Blairgowrie Highland Games are held, being famous for its hill race and a huge tug-of-war event between the towns of Blairgowrie and Rattray.

With a history that spans many centuries, just 15 miles to the west of Blairgowrie, is the magnificent Glamis Castle. Reminiscent of a French chateau, it has extensive elegant grounds and many ‘fairy tale’ towers. Once owned by King James V of Scotland and also famous for being both the setting of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the childhood home of the Queen mother, the castle has many associations with leading figures of Scottish and English history.
