Short Breaks in Swansea
Swansea is one of the largest cities in Wales and can be found on the country's southern coast. To the south of the city lies the Bristol Channel, and the River Tawe skirts by the city's eastern side. The expanded county area also encompasses the Lliw uplands in the north and Gower Peninsula to the west.
Swansea is rather unsurprisingly situated on Swansea Bay, a large bay that also incorporates the resorts of Port Talbot and The Mumbles, which is known for its ruined castle and remote lighthouse. A holiday in Swansea might involve a visit to one of the many sandy beaches along the bay - from the popular surfing beach at Aberavon to the more tranquil shores of Jersey Marine.
Swansea is an ideal destination for a short break. The city centre is full of shops and restaurants offering local craft and fine fare. Main shopping areas include the large Quadrant shopping centre, the thoroughfares of High Street and Oxford Street and Swansea's Indoor Market - the largest in Wales! Take an evening to sample Swansea's nightlife on Wind Street and the Kingsway or wander through some of the region's beautiful parkland such as Singleton Park. Plantasia's hothouse pyramid is also recommended.
Other attractions in the area include The National Waterfront Museum, the Mission Gallery and the Dylan Thomas Centre - which celebrates one of Wales's most famous literary figures.
