Short Breaks in Dartmouth
Dartmouth is a popular holiday destination on the South Devon coast. Sitting on the estuary of the River Dart, the town has strong nautical associations and is famously the home of the Royal Naval College. The water's edge is bordered by picturesque buildings with views of the rolling Devon countryside beyond. The town lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
A short distance inland up the estuary is Greenway, an elegant 18th century country house which was once the holiday home of the crime writer Agatha Christie and is now owned by the National Trust. The atmospheric Dartmouth Castle has guarded the entrance to the port of Dartmouth for over 600 years and is also well worth a visit.
As alternatives to the many sailing activities on offer in Dartmouth, there is the golden sandy beach at Blackpool Sands; the walking routes along the South West Coastal path and the varied sporting facilities at the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club.
