Down
The district of Down is situated in the south-east of Northern Ireland and has a coastline on the Irish Sea as well as partially bordering Strangford Lough - a large sea inlet that is popular with nature enthusiasts due to its varied marine and bird life. The scenery also ranges from the heights of the Mourne Mountains right down to the flat sandy beaches of seaside resorts such as Newcastle.
The district's main town is Downpatrick and there are also several picturesque villages in the region such as Dundrum, Killough and Killyleagh. Other attractions that Down has to offer include the floral wonder of Rowallane Garden, the striking architecture of both Down Cathedral and Castle Ward estate, the wild and wonderful dunes of Murlough Nature Reserve as well as the spectacular views of the aforementioned Mourne Mountains.
