Short Breaks in East Yorkshire

East Yorkshire, also known as the East Riding of Yorkshire, is a county in the Yorkshire and the Humber region of England. The county town is the ancient town of Beverley though the largest population centre is the city of Kingston-upon-Hull. Other towns in the county include the seaside resorts of Hornsea & Bridlington, the port of Goole and market towns of Driffield & Market Weighton.

East Yorkshire is predominantly agricultural and therefore has a rustic charm about it. The main range of hills is the Yorkshire Wolds - of which the Wolds Way is a popular route with walkers -  and the Vale of York which is situated to the north of the county. Places like Spurn Head and Bempton Cliffs are ideal places to view the county's bird life as are stretches of the major rivers that flow through East Yorkshire such as the Derwent, the Ouse, the Aire and the Trent.  The large Humber estuary with the Humber Bridge - one of the longest suspension bridges in the world - forms part of the county's border as does the North Sea.

Places to see in the county range from the grand houses of Burton Agnes Hall & Sewerby Hall to the impressive parish church of Beverley Minster to the working windmill at Skidby. For a more leisurely way to view the county, the Pocklington canal and Driffield Navigation waterway are a good choice. Or take a sailing trip around the Hornsea Mere - a place where fishing is also an option!
