Short Breaks in Folkestone
Established as a seaside resort in the Victorian era, Folkestone is a coastal town on the east coast of Kent. The sea front is still graced with many charming Victorian buildings and the town’s sandy beaches are great for traditional family fun. Away from the sea, the 54 acre Brockhill Country Park offers lovely valley and lakeside walks, as well as fantastic views of the English Channel. For wildlife enthusiasts, the East Cliff and Warren Country Park will be a treat, with its numerous species of birds and butterflies. The area is also popular with fossil hunters.
Folkestone has a lively arts scene and the Quarterhouse arts centre runs an interesting variety of visual and performing arts events. In addition, the Lea Cliff Hall has a busy programme of comedy and musical performances.
The Martello Tower that sits above the town and the Kent Battle of Britain Museum, just a few miles inland, are witness to Folkestone’s involvement with the country’s military history.
