Gosport lies in the county of Hampshire on the south coast of England. It has 24 miles of waterfront and is part of a peninsula to the west of Portsmouth Harbour. Having 3 marinas, the town is very popular with the yachting fraternity and many crews, sailing teams and solo sailors are based in Gosport, enjoying its convenient sailing access to The Solent and The Isle of Wight. Local beaches include Calshot Beach and the beaches within Lepe Country Park.
The 3km Millennium Waterfront Trail provides a relaxing way to explore some of Gosport’s attractions, offering delightful views of Portsmouth Harbour and a leisurely pedestrian route to Explosion! The Museum of Naval Firepower, The Falkland Gardens and the Royal Navy Submarine Museum. Other local features of historical interest include the 17th century Fort Brockhurst, The 17th Century Living History Village and The Museum of Diving.
Cruises can be taken on Portsmouth Harbour itself and helicopters rides are available for a bird’s eye tour of The Solent. A regular ferry takes pedestrians from Gosport to Portsmouth, and from Portsmouth a catamaran service can be taken to the Isle of Wight.
The Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth is an excellent venue for shopping with its numerous shops and restaurants in a glamorous marina setting. The striking Spinnaker Tower soars above the Gunwharf Quays and its 170 metre high viewing platform offers stunning views of the south coast.
Inland, away from the sea, walkers and cyclists will find many delightful routes through the Alver Valley and Wildgrounds, both conservation areas with a rich variety of wildlife and vegetation.
