Short Breaks in Great Yarmouth
Great Yarmouth is primarily a seaside holiday resort on the Norfolk coast in the south-east of England. It is known for its long, safe, sandy beaches - ideal for a perfect family day out. When you tire of the beach there are plenty of alternatives to hand, such as amusement arcades, pleasure gardens and walks out along the town’s two piers: the Britannia Pier and the Wellington Pier. The Britannia Pier has its own theatre, where nationally known entertainers can be seen performing during the summer season.
The historic heart of Great Yarmouth can be found at the South Quay with its 17th century Merchant House and interesting examples of Tudor, Georgian and Elizabethan architecture. The town has a wealth of museums, including The Time and Tide Museum, The Norfolk Nelson Museum and the Historic Smokehouse and Potteries.
Breydon Water, to the rear of Great Yarmouth and the Halvergate Marshes, on the surrounding outskirts of the town, are both protected nature reserves, offering great opportunities for seeing numerous species of wetland birds. In addition to the birds, seals are frequently seen just off the shore.
Other activities available in the area include golf at one of the town’s 3 golf courses, taking a hired boat or canoe out on the Norfolk Broads or a day watching horse racing at The Great Yarmouth Race Track.
