Short Breaks in Hastings
Hastings is a town in East Sussex on the England's south coast. It is historically renowned for the famous Battle of Hastings - which took place at nearby Senlac Hill - in 1066 where England's last Saxon King, Harold Godwinson, was defeated by William The Conqueror leading to the Norman Invasion. Remnants of Hastings Castle are still visible on West Hill.
Hastings is one of the five ancient Cinque Ports and is also a seaside town with a beach that stretches from the old town to nearby St Leonards. Places to visit on the seafront include the Blue Reef Aquarium and the West Marina Gardens.
The town has four museums; the Old Town Hall Museum which tells of Hastings rich history, the Fishermen's Museum, the Shipwreck Heritage Centre and the Hastings Museum and Art Gallery noted for its exceptional art and exotic collections of Asian and Australian artefacts. For a more relaxing day out spend a day wandering round the beautiful parks and gardens that Hastings have to offer.
