Short Breaks in Looe
Looe is a town on the south Cornish coast. Linked by a 19th century seven-arched bridge, and divided into East and West Looe, it straddles the estuary of the River Looe on its way out to sea. East Looe has a lovely sandy beach and a harbour busy with fishing boats, while West Looe is more peaceful offering a good choice of shops, restaurants and hotels. The coastal path that runs in both directions from Looe is blessed with stunning views and ideal for keen walkers.
Taking a boat out to Looe Island is a popular trip for visitors. Just a mile out to sea from the town, the 22 acre island is an area of outstanding natural beauty and commands glorious coastal views along much of the south Cornish coast. Looe Island is beautifully conserved having no roads, shops or traffic. The island provides many opportunities for family relaxation with two safe beaches, a rock swimming pool, coves, caves and woodland walks.
Many fine historical houses are within easy reach of Looe, among them being the 18th century Antony House at the village of Antony, the charming Tudor and medieval Cotehele House and the magnificent Lanhydrock House with its 890 acre estate.
