Short Breaks in Northumberland
Northumberland, in the North East of England, is one of the two northern most counties. Historically being on the border between England and Scotland, the county has been the site of many battles as well as sharing many aspects of Scottish heritage such as in the local dialect and the use of tartan. It is also noted for the striking beauty of its high moorland landscapes. The main town is Morpeth.
Attractions in the county are mostly based around the natural beauty of the area. Places of interest include the historic fortification of Hadrian's Wall which stretches across the width of Northern England, the stately grandeur of Alnwick Castle, the striking hillside country house at Cragside, the vast reservoir at Kielder Water and the 'Holy Island' of Lindisfarne.
