Short Breaks in Pitlochry
Pitlochry is a small town in the county of Perth and Ross, Scotland. Lying along the beautiful location of the River Tummel and at the foot of the Ben Y Vrackie mountain, Pitlochry has been a popular tourist resort since Victorian times and is a great base to explore all that this part of the country has to offer.
The town itself still has many beautiful Victorian buildings, a diverse range of shops and lots of restaurants offering fine Highland fare. Pitlochry is also famous for its salmon ladder, which is part of the local dam that lies across Loch Faskally, and the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. It also has two whisky distilleries!
A big feature of the town is the views it offers. Queen's View offers one of the best vistas in the region and the river, loch and surrounding landscapes offer many wonderful photo opportunities. The mountainous surroundings have also proved very popular with climbers and hillwalkers alike. The forests and the many walking trails provide chances to observe the local flora and fauna.
Further afield the town is relatively close to attractions such as the wild windswept Rannoch Moor, Schiehallion - 'The Fairy Mountain', Blair Atholl and the Cairngorms National Park and the historic town of Dunkeld.
