North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire is the largest county in England. A shire county, within its boundaries can be found the North York Moors as well as a significant part of the Yorkshire Dales - in fact, close to half the county is national parkland! To the west of the county are the Pennine Hills and the eastern side has a coastline on the North Sea.
Major towns and cities in North Yorkshire include the historic walled city of York, the market town of Knaresborough and its impressive viaduct, the spa town of Harrogate and the coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby.
The county's abundance of hills, dales & moors make it a highly desirable area for walkers but there are plenty of other things to do and places to visit in North Yorkshire; the stately splendour of Castle Howard, the spectacular ruins of Fountains Abbey, the natural wonder of Ingleborough Cave. Take a scenic trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway or take the family to a theme park such as Flamingo Land Resort or Lightwater Valley.
