Short Breaks in St Just-in-Penwith
The small quaint town of St-Just-in-Penwith lies on the south-west tip of Cornwall and is an excellent base from which to explore well known Cornish landmarks, such as Sennen Cove, Cape Cornwall and Land’s End. Flights to the Isles of Scilly are also available from the Land’s End Aerodrome, a little to the south of the town. The region was once a centre for Cornish tin mining and a number of its iconic stone engine house towers can still be seen locally. For those who would like to know more about the Cornish tin mining era, The Geevor Tin Mining Museum offers an underground tour and a remarkable insight into its history.
Sandwiched between a stunning coastline and dramatic moorland, St-Just-in-Penwith is perfect for walking and cycling short breaks. In particular, the beautiful Atlantic headland of Cape Cornwall commands spectacular views for visitors to enjoy. In addition to walking, golf is also available at the nearby Cape Cornwall Golf and Country Club. The St-Just-in-Penwith area has attracted a thriving community of local artists and there are several interesting art galleries in the town.
Cornwall has numerous ancient stone and barrow sites that are swathed in history and folklore, among them is Ballowall Barrow and Kenidjack, just outside St-Just-in-Penwith.
