Short Breaks in Weymouth
Weymouth is a firm favourite for a traditional family seaside holiday. Its wide sweeping bay and gently sloping beach are perfect for young and old to enjoy the sea safely. The main promenade has an array of 18th and 19th century buildings, and many are now cafés and restaurants with charming bay windows that look out across the sea. A short stroll from the beach will take you to some of Weymouth’s atmospheric back streets, where small independent shops can be found, jam packed with gifts and mementoes.
Central to the town is Weymouth Harbour, where fresh fish can be bought straight from the fishing boats. Alternatively, there are several excellent restaurants serving local sea food, some with picturesque views of the harbour and Town Bridge. Much of the holiday accommodation - ranging from chalet-style properties to hilltop apartments - also offer impressive panoramic vistas of the town's harbour and its shoreline.
For those who prefer more active breaks, Weymouth Bay and the nearby Portland Harbour are popular with windsurfers and sailors, and a number of outlets offer coaching and the hire of equipment. The sailing events for the 2012 Olympics will take place in Weymouth Bay and at Portland Harbour, just a short bus ride away from Weymouth town centre.
