Short Breaks in Whitby
Whitby is a picturesque seaside resort on the Yorkshire Coast and is set within a dramatic landscape having the highest cliffs in England and surrounded by the North York Moors National Park. Above the town, is the dramatic silhouette of St Hilda’s Abbey, high on Whitby’s East Cliff. The churchyard of St Mary’s Church was a source of inspiration to Bram Stoker in his writing of his classic horror novel, Dracula and it can be reached by climbing the 199 steps up from the old town area of Whitby.
Many interesting art galleries are dotted around the town’s charming old streets, along with small independent shops selling items such as gifts, Whitby Jet jewellery, fresh seafood and antiques. Because of its scenic location and cultural connections, the town is now a popular destination for taking a short break.
