"We had a wonderful week, enjoying the home comforts of Liz’s comfy Chapelton cottage, whilst enjoying the local area. The cottage offers the opportunity to escape from the rigours of our covid lives and enjoy the open countryside on your doorstep. Nature is all around you, with numerous birds, (including the Starlings moving in a mumuration, a joy to see), the frequent visits of the local rabbits and we even heard, then saw a swarm of bees keeping up with their queen. If you can drag yourself away from this, take the opportunity to stay local. There are walks from the doorstep – a circular loop to Alyth is possible where a visit to the “The Barony” café sited in the old church with the cycle shop is a must. (Nourishment for the homeward journey). Also, the walk to the north of Alyth is great where views of the valley open up before you. There are numerous cycling opportunities with a mass of quiet roads to choose from. We cycled to Dunkeld, Kirriemuir and Glen Prosen (a favourite destination of Captain Scott), all fuelled with delightful coffee stops. Did we use the car ?, a little. To support a delightful walk in Glen Clova and admittedly transporting the golf clubs to the 2 very nearby (and reasonably priced) golf courses. The week just whizzed by. Sadly, there were only 24 hours in a day, although the late bright evenings tried their best to make us think otherwise. Thank you Liz for providing a wonderful base to explore the wonders of this often overlooked part of Scotland. June 2021"
