About Arundel

Arundel is a market town within the South Downs of West Sussex. It blends a sense of heritage with an edge of contemporary culture, being in an atmospheric location with beautiful old buildings and vibrant fashionable shops, restaurants and art galleries.

As you approach Arundel you will be struck by the dramatic sight of Arundel Castle towering above the town. Nearly a thousand years old in parts and set in 40 acres of grounds, the castle is a magnificent example of medieval architecture. The castle is open to visitors and full of priceless fine art works and historical treasures. It has a varied programme of events throughout the summer season including jousting events, concerts, theatre performances and historical re-enactments.

For those with an interest in wildlife, the Arundel Wetland Centre has 26 hectares of protected wetlands, and is home to species such as kingfishers and water voles. The Arundel Wetland Centre is a popular family attraction with its Pond Skaters Adventure and Tree Creeper Play Area.

The Arundel area has many delightful routes for walkers, along the River Arun, around Swanbourne Lake and further afield in the South Downs. The Arundel Festival is held in August and includes a host of varied arts events such as plays, music, art exhibitions and workshops.

Famous for its Festival of Speed, the Goodwood motor racing venue is just 10 miles from Arundel. It also has a golf course, a health club and offers a range of ‘experiences’ including race track driving, flying and shooting. The town of Chichester, with its internationally acclaimed Chichester Festival Theatre, is also nearby.
