About Salcombe

Salcombe is a busy harbourside town on the South Devon coast. It lies close to the mouth of the Kingsbridge estuary within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town is very popular among wealthy yacht owners and the fashionable shops, cafes and restaurants reflect their lifestyle. A sailing school and a boating school offer a variety of courses and opportunities for scuba diving, surfing, fishing and kayaking are also available.

The South West Coastal Path runs through Salcombe and provides an excellent way to enjoy the beautiful local scenery. Dotted along both sides of the estuary are a number of popular sandy beaches such as Sunny Cove, Cable Cove, North Sands and South Sands. Regular ferries carry visitors across the waters to the beaches throughout the summer season.

Also in Salcombe is Overbeck's, now owned by the National Trust, an Edwardian house and exotic garden containing banana plants and palm trees. It has a fascinating museum of unusual artefacts and its position commands superb view of the estuary.
