"The perfect setting for another one of our group to celebrate their 50th birthday!!! This house was well appointed, with all the facilities you would expect of a magnificent period building. The little touches in all the rooms makes it very comfortable and welcoming. The huge kitchen was the ideal place for our celebratory dinner of Saturday evening and the chef provided a wonderful culinary delight. James, was again, the perfect host and helped out with much useful information to make it a great stay. Definately on our list for a return visit."

"Beautiful house and surroundings. All the mod cons you'd expect with the house. Friendly welcome by James - the perfect start to what turned out to be the perfect holiday. We were 6 couples with 6 children under 2 - we were delighted by the toys and spacious living area. Lovely new kitchen - great for big dinner parties. We had a fantastic time - thanks very much."

"The Old Rectory's inaugural guests, and we were delighted with our stay. Fabulous house; we spent most of the time in the kitchen. It's such a great venue for parties. We all enjoyed it"

About Devon
Devon, or Devonshire, is a large county in south west England and the third largest in the country. It has separate coastlines on both the north and south of the county - the only English county to do so. The geography varies from the wild, vast moors and tors of Dartmoor to the rolling hills of South Devon and the coastal beauty of the English Riviera resort of Torbay.
Although predominately a rural county, its county town is the city of Exeter. Its other major city is Plymouth on the south coast. Other towns include Bideford, Barnstaple, Newton Abbot and Exmouth. The county boasts many seaside resorts - Dawlish, Sidmouth, Westward Ho! and Exmouth being but a few.
Places to visit in Devon include Powderham Castle and its beautiful location, the Benedictine monastery at Buckfast Abbey, the natural beauty of Lydford Gorge, a trip back in time to the Victorian port of Morwellham Quay or a ride up the North Devon cliffs on the Lynton and Lynmouth funicular railway. There are also many pretty villages in Devon where you can enjoy the famous Devonshire cream tea of scones, jam and clotted cream!
How to Get There
You're on top of the world here. Close to the centre of the village, overlooking the little church, the Old Rectory has views of the Blackdown Hills 15 miles in one direction and Dartmoor 20 miles in another. Drive through the gates past a line of classic English beech trees, you go through an acre of your own lawned gardens with clipped hedges, a feature rose garden, a covered 10m x 5m heated pool and a children’s play area with play equipment.
The weather in Devon is warmer than other parts of the country. As well the main living areas, the Old Rectory has a Mediterranean style courtyard, a suntrap barbecue area and there is a boot room for keen walkers to de-boot. On rainy days, a library provides the ideal place to run away and read the newspapers.
Stoodleigh is superbly accessible. It is signposted from the North Devon link road which connects the M5 to the resorts of the North Devon and Cornwall coasts. You can be on the beach in 45 minutes.
Closer to hand, local pubs include the Exeter Inn, nestled by the dramatic River Exe, the Quarryman’s Rest in Bampton and Hartnoll Hotel outside Tiverton for food, and for gourmets there's a Michelin starred restaurant, the Masons Arms, in nearby Knowstone.
There’s so much to do here – and so little to do, too. It’s up to you!
