Further Details

Back in 2005, a multi-millionaire built this house as his perfect rural get-away. In 2009, he had to return to the city. The local farmer bought it and has luxuriously converted it - with advice from Sleeps12.com - into a fabulous holiday house.

The Virginia creeper-covered traditional red-brick and slate roof exterior hides a stunningly contemporary interior of glass doors, underfloor heating throughout, maple hardwood furniture, double-glazed oak framed windows, halogen downlighters, light wells and all the trimmings in brushed stainless steel. From it, there are views across the beautiful Culm Valley into the heart of the Blackdown Hills. Worried about security? There are electric gates and an Aiphone entryphone.

Downstairs, the living-room has a log effect gas fire. Around it are arranged comfortable leather armchairs and sofas. From them you can watch , DVD and Sky channels 1 to 4 Extra with 5.1 surround sound on a Sony 40in television. Wireless broadband feeds an integrated multimedia centre including a PC point.

There is a covered heated swimming pool for all year round fun. With a Separate wet room and changing room in an adjacent building for the pool.

The kitchen includes a Whirlpool American-style fridge freezer and a Cook Center Evolution electric oven with Fastlite hob and Neff extractor. There is a walk-in larder. And next to it a gorgeous conservatory, cooled by Daikin air conditioning and with a Samsung 40in flat screen TV.

The utility room has a washing machine and dryer. Not that you will need it but a Beam Serenity Plus system controlled from here can vacuum the whole house with inlets in the skirting boards of every room.

There is a feature galleried landing on the first floor. From it, the main bedroom has a Jensen bed with its own remote control mattress adjuster as well as a walk-in wardrobe. The ensuite bathroom has a Bette shower unit and a stylish glass basin.

Bedroom two is a twin room, bedroom three has a 5ft and a single bed, and bedroom four has a double, most of them are automatically adjustable. All the furniture is maple, and all the wardrobes are built-in. They are served by a family bathroom with Bette and Geberit sanitaryware.

Across the brick pavure parking area is the Annexe Suite, with a 5ft king size bed and a single bed with its own ensuite wetroom. Next to this is the games room, which has a Pool Table, air hockey, Sky TV and a Wii.

Continuing outdoors around the main house, a secure fenced yard on woodchip has children's play equipment and trampoline. Next to it is a paved terrace with Outback Graphite gas barbecue and ha-ha (6ft drop, toddlers beware)overlooking thousands of acres of rolling pasture and farmland. There is outdoor seating with two round marble tables that each seat six comfortably. And why not spend the late morning in the sun lying in the hammock on the terrace?

Beyond the play equipment you will find a 16ft x 32ft covered heated swimming pool with its own changing area. Later in the day, watch the sun go down with a loved one from the kissing chair in the garden.

About Devon

Devon, or Devonshire, is a large county in south west England and the third largest in the country. It has separate coastlines on both the north and south of the county - the only English county to do so. The geography varies from the wild, vast moors and tors of Dartmoor to the rolling hills of South Devon and the coastal beauty of the English Riviera resort of Torbay.

Although predominately a rural county, its county town is the city of Exeter. Its other major city is Plymouth on the south coast. Other towns include Bideford, Barnstaple, Newton Abbot and Exmouth. The county boasts many seaside resorts - Dawlish, Sidmouth, Westward Ho! and Exmouth being but a few.

Places to visit in Devon include Powderham Castle and its beautiful location, the Benedictine monastery at Buckfast Abbey, the natural beauty of Lydford Gorge, a trip back in time to the Victorian port of Morwellham Quay or a ride up the North Devon cliffs on the Lynton and Lynmouth funicular railway. There are also many pretty villages in Devon where you can enjoy the famous Devonshire cream tea of scones, jam and clotted cream!

How to Get There

There is so much to do locally. Visiting the Blackdown Hills is like stepping back in time. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this peaceful group of hills which lies on the border of Devon and Somerset has survived almost unscathed by post-war development. To the north the land rises steeply in a dramatic wooded scarp, while to the south it forms a plateau, deeply dissected by valleys. On top of the plateau lie open windswept spaces, while in the valleys picturesque chertstone, cob, and thatched buildings cluster in villages and hamlets, surrounded by a patchwork of small enclosed fields, and accessed down narrow winding lanes with tall hedgerows.

Local pubs include the Culm Valley Inn. For superb food, go to the Merry Harriers or Lakeview Manor in Dunkeswell.
