Cottage Holidays in Cirencester

Cirencester is a quaint country town in the heart of the Cotswolds and provides an ideal base from which to explore the region. It has a wealth of interesting old buildings and is great for shopping and eating out. There is an excellent choice of shops and restaurants, including unique independent outlets as well as fashionable high street names.

For a relaxing walk, there are a number of lovely open spaces to explore such as the 3000 acre Cirencester Park, famous for its 18th century geometric landscaping.  Within the park and founded in 1894, you will find the Cirencester Park Polo Club ground - the oldest polo ground in Britain where regular polo matches are still played and spectators are admitted for a modest fee. Prince William and Prince Harry, along with their father Prince Charles, have played at the polo ground on numerous occasions over the years. The Abbey Grounds, also close to the centre of Cirencester, offer another delightful venue for walks and picnics.

In Roman times, Cirencester was the second largest settlement after London and the town’s Corinium Museum is noted for its impressive collection of Roman artefacts.

At the Cotswold Leisure Centre you will find an indoor swimming pool and the Cirencester Open-Air Swimming Pool is also open to the public from May – September. For a family day out, just 20 miles away at Burford, the Cotswold Wildlife Park has lots of interest with its fascinating array of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, all housed within 160 acres of parkland.
