Yeovil is a busy Somerset town, well known as a centre for the aircraft industry; AgustaWestland, the famous helicopter manufacturers are one of the largest companies long established in the town. 

Within the Yeovil Country Park and close to the town centre, you will find Ninesprings: a charming park with broad-leafed trees and a cascading stream that runs down a lush valley, dotted with pools and foot bridges. Yeovil is well served with civic amenities, such as an indoor swimming pool, a bowling alley and a multi-screen cinema.

Historically, the town was a centre for the glove making industry, hence the nickname ‘The Glovers’ which is fondly attached to Yeovil Town Football Club. A number of former nineteenth century glove factory buildings in the area have now been tastefully converted for contemporary use. The centre of town is marked by the silhouette of The Church of St John the Baptist, a fine 14th century church made from the local Ham-Stone, which is valued for its distinctive mustard-gold colouring. The lawns surrounding the church are a popular spot for outdoor relaxation, away from the shops and offices.

Yeovil is within easy reach of many beautiful Somerset villages, such as Montacute and Hinton St George. Montacute House is well worth a visit; owned by the National Trust, it is an impressive Elizabethan country house with stunning gardens and parkland. Just beyond Montacute is Ham Hill, once an Iron Age hill fort and now an extensive country park, commanding excellent views across the Somerset Levels. The quarries of Ham Hill have provided the golden Ham Stone to the region for hundreds of years, but now, in the main, are part of the Ham Hill Country Park, a popular open space for walking and picnicking. Children particularly, enjoy exploring the rocks and small pits left by the quarry works.
