Back in the day, Pipits Retreat was a busy place, used for storing threshed grain. The farmhands came and went, came and went, bringing the grain in from the fields, and it must have been a hub of activity at harvest time.

But that’s all gone now and following a very considered transformation Pipits Retreat is a delight of a holiday cottage with a very restful ambience that goes a long way to ensuring your stay here is utterly relaxing. With room for 5 sleepy heads in 2 bedrooms, Pipits Retreat ticks all the right boxes for family holidays, and for shortbreaks and weekends away for two couples.

Step into the open plan living space where natural daylight floods in from full height doors and windows on both sides; it all feels so fresh and crisp. The kitchen is at one end and is very well furnished with a sturdy table and chairs, electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge with ice box, microwave, wine cooler, and washer/dryer. There’s a WC, and at the other end of the living space, the living area; nice comfy sofas, a Smart TV and DVD player, and in the corner, an easy-to-use wood-burner (logs supplied Oct to April). To get back from a walk in the fields on a chilly day in autumn or winter and light the fire is such a treat; get a tray of tea and toast and sit round and delight in the sheer cosiness; it’s bliss.

Upstairs, to the right, Bedroom 1 has a kingsize pine bed and an en suite shower room. To the left, Bedroom 2 sleeps 3 in either three singles beds, or a superking and a single, and if you have a baby on board, there’s room for a cot (provided). This room also has the luxury of an en suite bathroom, with a bath tub with an overhead shower. Don’t worry if you find it hard to travel light; there’s plenty of wardrobe space at Pipits Retreat, good news for some!

That blend of modern facilities and rustic charm works its magic here; bare stone walls, original ceiling beams and wall timbers, it all blends so well together with the contemporary furnishings, with the solid beech doors and oak floors. You can’t help but smile when on your first morning here, you open the back door onto the immense shared grounds and notice the view of the open fields sloping gently up to Dumpdon Hill; you just know it’s going to be a wonderful holiday.
